Head up, focus forward

Girl doing a handstand on a balance beam

Do not look down

When I was young I played on the balance beam.

It was something I really enjoyed doing.

There were girls who were much better than me and I aspired to be like them someday.

The thing to remember when doing any move on the beam is to not look down.

When you do, you’ll lose your balance.

Rather, keep your head up and focus forward.

This is a wonderful analogy for life.

One foot in front of the other, chin up and eyes looking ahead.

That’s how to build confidence.

But even if you do fall off, just hop right back up and carry on.
