Life happens - suffering is optional

Drops of rain on a car window in a storm

What power do you give your thoughts?

Life will happen.

Big things will come into our lives to cause deep feelings and distress.
This is life and just part of being on this journey.

But I believe that, although extremely difficult some days to move through, staying in the despair and ruminating is a choice.

Suffering within it is optional.

Is it easy? No.

It’s like running through a hurricane trying to seek shelter.

Debris flying through the air, wind howling, extreme fear.

But if I look diligently enough, there is a tiny corner, a bit of space to at least hide my face for awhile.

There I can gather my strength and my thoughts to move forward to greater shelter. A more peaceful space.

Perhaps others will be there seeking refuge as well.

The idea of this gives me more hope.

Now I am even more determined and I move onward into the storm again.

I have come to learn that it’s the power I give to thoughts and events which allow them to either control me or to vanish like a vapour.

Like steam from a boiling kettle. It’s only dangerous closest to the water.

It’s better not focus on the boiling water but allow the steam (my thoughts) to rise into nothingness.
